Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, is the original home of the Paisley Pattern in the 19th Century.

While the teardrop boteh motif originated in Persia and Kashmir, the town of Paisley became the global centre for weaving these designs into fashionable shawls between 1800 and 1850, giving the pattern its name.
